Take the time to prepare well and do your research

Be Prepared – Be Positive – Be Confident

Whatever the position is that you are applying for whether it is working in a warehouse, an office, or in management, proper preparation is crucial, it will:

  • show you are serious about the opportunity
  • boost your confidence
  • impress your prospective employer
  • put you ahead of other candidates who have not prepared

If you really want the job, you should do everything that you can to be fully prepared for your interview. Interviewers are looking for someone who wants this job, not just any job. Find out all you can about the position you are applying for and the company that you are looking to join. Do extensive online research including:

  • Reviewing the company website especially the “About Us” section.
  • Checking the company’s Social Media Feeds – Linked In, You Tube, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Search ingthe company on Google News for current information

How you conduct yourself in the interview, how confident you are, how keen you are, how much you know about where you are looking to work will all have a big impact on whether it’s you that gets the job…or not.

You may be asked for a phone or face to face interview, so practice is key! Practice interviewing with a friend. Answer questions you could be asked during a job interview. As well as helping to calm your nerves you will be able to prepare answers ahead of time.

Use your research in your interview. During the interview, try to connect to the people you’re speaking with and show your enthusiasm. Use your research to create your own questions for the interviewers to increase your knowledge about the role – e.g. “Can you describe a typical day in this position?” or “What is this company’s management style?”
